• A major problem in regard to alcoholism in the United States is the lack of recognition of alcohol problems and intervention in regard to patients by physicians and other medical clinicians throughout this country.
• When an individual becomes physically dependent on alcohol, and they suddenly stop drinking, withdrawal symptoms will occur; these alcohol withdrawal symptoms can include nausea, sweating, hands being shaky, and anxiety.
• Alcohol in moderation has been known to increase digestion, but this may be due to its relaxing effect; in higher "doses", alcohol can cause inflammation of the stomach lining, which is one of the primary reasons that an individual may experience heartburn and nausea the day after a bout with binge drinking.
• Individuals who are planning to drive or engage in other activities that require both alertness and skill such as using high-speed machinery should not drink alcohol.
